Our Story: The Legacy of oom Piet

Oom Piet came from humble beginnings, rooted in the South African farming tradition. With a deep love for the land and an unmatched work ethic, he established uMshwathi Garden Services in 2003. His dedication to quality service and horticultural care quickly earned him a loyal client base. More than just a business, it was a passion he shared with his family, especially his son, to whom he passed on his knowledge, values, and hands-on experience.

In 2013, inspired by his father’s dedication, oom Piet’s son ventured into the world of landscaping and team management, marking the beginning of his own journey in the green industry. Sadly, uMshwathi Garden Services closed its doors in 2015, but the seed of its legacy had already been planted.

Tragedy struck in 2021 when oom Piet passed away, leaving behind a powerful legacy of perseverance, integrity, and care for the land. In his honour, Oom Piet’s Garden Services (OPGS) was founded, an enterprise built not only on professional skill, but on a heartfelt tribute to a father’s dream.

Since its founding, OPGS has flourished through dedication, hard work, and a commitment to excellence. Each year has marked significant growth, transforming the company into a respected and thriving business, carrying forward oom Piet’s legacy, one garden at a time.
